Certainly there are only a few Gibson ES-335 semi-hollowbody electric guitars that have the same recognition value as Warren Haynes “Big Red”. This is what he calls his 1961 ES-335. There would certainly be those of Alvin Lee or Larry Carlton, which are probably even more popular.
Warren Haynes is known for his excellent guitar work with the Allman Brothers and Gov't Mule. He has also worked with many well-known artists such as Bob Dylan, John Lee Hooker, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Dave Matthews, Kid Rock, BB King and many more. His Gibson ES-335 from 1961 has always faithfully accompanied him during this time.
Gibson analyzed Warren's guitar very carefully and then meticulously recreated it in this great model. So they chose the neck and wood based on weight and resonance, and also precisely recreated Warren's neck profile from his 1961s. The center block also consists of a light piece of maple, just like on the 1961 models. The finish has also been carefully applied and looks very authentic.
This guitar was made at Gibson in Memphis / Tennessee. She is in new condition. Limited edition No. 66/300. With certificates of authenticity and original case. The instrument was personally signed on May 19, 2015 on the back of the headstock.
The guitar comes from the first owner and is being sold as a result of collective dissolution.
The playability of this instrument is fantastic. The neck lies comfortably in the hand. It's not too fat, but not too thin either. The subtle aging also gives it a bit of vintage flair.
The neck pickup sounds pleasantly warm and bluesy and can be easily controlled with the potentiometer. It shows again that sometimes an ES can be the better Les Paul, especially with the new Gibson products. Certainly a daring statement, but unfortunately that is true in many cases.
In addition to its bite, the bridge pickup, which seems to me to be very strong with the BurstBucker 2 pickups, also shows a high level of assertiveness in the distorted area, especially when interacting with others. Yes, an old truism, not every guitar that is played alone can also prevail in the band structure.
What I like best is the interaction in the middle position of both pickups. The bell-like, throaty sound, somewhat dry, comes into its own here.
